“Candace Phillips has had a longstanding interest in British cars and is well known among upstate automotive circles. In addition to joining FBCC as one of the charter members in 1994, she has held leadership positions in other car clubs. She was very involved in organizing the EURO Auto Show and has been a familiar presence at many club events over the years. She and her MGB were featured in a magazine article that accompanied one of these early shows. She fondly recalls many adventures with fellow car club members in the early years such as a Christmas party at the Dogwood Country Club in Anderson where a large crowd of over 70 people did their best to enjoy themselves in a rainy downpour. At another Christmas party at Calhoun Corners in Clemson, she and Mike Barefield were trying to enjoy a speech by Betty Harbison when a plate glass window fell from the second story and interrupted the festivities. She remembers another enjoyable outing at the Taylor Ranch outside of Hendersonville one year where the Vintage Triumph Registry held a national meeting.
She retired from the public school system and lives in the Campobello area. She is the proud owner of several dozen British cars, none of them longer than 6 inches! She enjoys a personal collection of model cars, stamps and British regalia, and her most recent British automobiles were a Jaguar XJ-6 and a 1976 MGB. She is a very personable conversationalist who is always ready to greet new members of the club and reminisce with the veterans.”
