Spring Croquet Tournament
May 23. 2026
Rain Date May 30, 2026
New Format

A decision has been made with thanks to Competitor Chuck Gee for the idea and with the full understanding that, if it flops, it is all my fault and none of his own.

The Spring FBCC Croquet Tournament will be, as announced above, held on May 23, 2026, at the Elysian Fields adjacent to Jud Chapin’s Brown Building.  Jud will need eight (8) two person teams to fill out the Brackets.  Please reach out directly to Jud to sign up to play.

The format will be:

  • Three rounds of DOUBLE ELIMINATION play.
  • Everybody Plays At Least Two Matches
  • See Bracket Below

The First Round is four matches of two teams each.  For the Second Round the four winners from the First Round will play each other in the “Winner’s Bracket” on the two courts of their choosing and the four losers from the First Round will play each other in  “Loser’s Bracket” on the remaining two courts.

Now it gets a bit complicated.  In Round Three the two winners from the Winner’s Bracket then play each other.  The two losers from the Winner’s Bracket also play each other and the two winners from the first round of the Loser’s Bracket play each other.  At the end of Round Three we have the undefeated winner of the Winner’s Bracket (“WW”); the once defeated winner of the Winner’s Bracket loser’s match (“WL”) and the once defeated winner of the Loser’s Bracket (“LW”).  That’s three teams to decide the Championship.   Sufficiently confused – you ain’t seen nothing yet.

WW gets a bye into the Championship Round (sit down, relax and have a beverage of your choice).  WL and LW will play a Play-In Match to determine who is to challenge WW in the Championship Round.  Both teams in the Play-In match have one loss so the loser of this match is out.

The Championship round will then pit the winning team from the Play-In match against the winning team from the Winner’s Bracket for the exciting finale.

Just like the Fall Tournament, this will also be an FBCC Picnic and, probably, the May Meeting.  Spectators are encouraged to bring their own chairs, food and beverages.  Pop-up awnings for shade are also a good idea if you have them. The Club will provide a port-a-potty on site for your comfort and convenience.

I’ll come up with some kind of trophy for the Spring Tournament and reserve the travelling Coveted Green Glove for the Fall Tournament (provided that Shark and Jennifer can find it and can remember to bring it).

There will be one Practice/Learning Session held on Saturday, May 9.  If you didn’t compete in the Fall Tournament you’ll really need to come to this Practice Session.

If more than eight teams want to compete, priority seeding will be given to those teams that competed in the previous Fall Tournament.

Let’s drive our wonderful cars whenever we can and play games when we’re not driving.  As the ad says:
